In the last thirty years from amazing people who see them, office printers have gone furniture. Every office has them now, or at least there are plans to buy a multi-purpose color inkjet printer.
Some use laser printer but inkjet is still the star for its low initial price and palatable upkeeping cost. Picking the right model is not as hard as some people make it, but there are a few points where you can waste some money.
1. Don’t buy a laser printer when you don’t need one. Laser printers are considerably more expensive than inkjet printers, especially when color capable. Their cost per page is lower than their inkjet relatives but printing volume has to make up for the initial investment to ever worth it. Smaller offices with only one or two computers printing only 10 to 20 documents a day would probably be not enough.
2. Don’t buy another printer unless you know you’ll make use of it. If you already have one device in your office and are thinking about getting one so that all computers can print at once, think again. Network printers can handle more than one peers at a time; even handle half a dozen with great efficiency. If your already present unit can be used as a network inkjet printer, make it work like that as it can save you enormous sums of money.
3. Don’t buy the cheapest inkjet printer you can find. It can be an appealing idea but cheapest is not always the best fit for your needs or even the best investment. In offices with higher output a more durable version of a preferably network printer will probably be a better solution. Reviews disclose cost per page ratios and you can relate to those to make a quick calculation on ROI.
4. Don’t buy functions you don’t need. This goes without saying but those multi-purpose inkjets can be mesmerizing. If you’re sure you will never print a color page in that area of office, because for example there will only be envelopes addressed, don’t buy a color inkjet printer. Look around if you can have a monochrome laser unit instead. It will cost a bit less and be more gentle on the toner so you won’t have to change it every fortnight.
There are a few traps to fall in while looking for a printer for your small office, but giving it a little thought before clicking order button can save some money. The Internet is virtually free, make good use of it and look around to see if you can find better, more durable, cheaper or more economically friendly printer for your money.
