We are all familiar with netbooks in general but worry not if you’ve missed the trend. Netbooks or mini notebook computers are basically laptops fitted with 10” screen and parts that were designed with battery life in mind, most often incorporating a quite surprising solution by Intel. Their Atom chips are exactly what this job needs. Low consumption, and just enough power squeezed out to make browsing the net or light tasks seamless as butter.
There has been some buzz on the netbook market lately and with that a few manufacturers decided to venture away from industrial looking brick simple netbooks and give design a shot. Yes, there are girls who like to be in touch while on the move and there is a market for some colors when it comes to laptops. A trend seems to emerge though and it is the arrival of pink laptops. There are quite a few pink models out now so I’m going to try to stick to netbooks this time, taking a brief trip in mobility land.
Samsung N130 10.1-inch Netbook
Starting off with a newcomer from Samsung. Changing slightly outdated NC10 we’re welcomed by a totally new keyboard and a
fancy 10 inches wide led backlit screen which allows for longer breaks between charges. There is a rather standard batch of 3 USB ports, a card reader and new 802.11n wireless card there is nothing to hide here except for 1gb of system memory and 160 gb hdd, but being completely honest here I don’t think that anyone would ever fall short of a job only because of these statistics. This computer does everything it is designed to do perfectly, no real outstanding attribute, but the price tag makes up for it. Nothing shows popularity of this unit more than that it is out of stock in most webshops, but when it is available it’s up for grabs for $349.
Dell inspiron mini 10
First take on the 10” world by Dell now comes in pink as well. You won’t run out of memory or disk space soon with 160 gb of hdd and 1gb of ram. Nothing remarkable though, dell decided to opt for a 3
cell battery which runs out after 3 hours. It makes up for it with superb quality of manufacture, the keyboard is a masterpiece and hinges are nothing you will have to hide. The unit goes for a little slower spin off of the Atom series, Z520 running at 1.3 ghz is going to run out of steam as soon as you try to watch hd-ready movies. Price tag is a bit under $400.
Asus 1008HA
The unique sea-clam design of the 1000 series comes in pink now, with top-notch parts as usual. At $500 it is the most expensive of
today’s roundup, but the best equipped too nonetheless. 250Gb hdd to keep your movies and N280 Atom at 1.66 ghz backed up by 1gb of ddr to play them. It runs 6 hours between charges so basically the same as the 1005ha black, only in pink with a fatter price tag.
If I really had to choose from these laptops for my girlfriend, I would probably go for the Dell, to make sure it doesn’t fall apart, the asus is a bit overpriced and the samsung is just average in everything.
