Running games on a regular netbook may be a frustrating experience for those who don’t come around to netbooks with the right expectations. These little computers are awesome for a lot of things including watching movies and browsing the net but a few games might be just too much for them for those who don’t know which games they should try to run.
Netbooks run older games almost perfectly. People who don’t find 3-4 year old games fun should probably choose a bigger and more powerful laptop computer, those who already have the mini should try one of the following.
OpenTTD. For those who have never heard of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, this is a strategy game revolving around petting a transportation company. The player needs to build railways, airports and bus stations for people trying to get from one city to another.
Minerals need to be brought to the factory and goods to be taken to the city. This version is a rewrite of the decade old original, but with a lot improvements. Many players can join to one game through the net or you can play with your friends over LAN, any netbook runs this game perfectly.
Starcraft is almost thirteen years old but still puts strategy enthusiasts in front of the screen. When it was first released the most powerful computers were with equipped with a pentium 233MHz processor, you won’t have any issues running it flawlessly on your 1600Mhz netbook.
Diablo II is an all time favorite for those who like to throw reality away for a few hours and hack up some thousand monsters with select spells and skills. If you’ve never had the chance to play this game go on and buy a copy, $5 to $10 gets you a box with original Diablo and the expansion pack. With expectations at the right place you will have tremendous fun with this game.
Torchlight a new iteration of the hack and slash genre, made by former Diablo developers. In my personal opinion Diablo II was better, but it has a few features that make me start it up for a few hours. Some mindless carnage on monsters from under is a perfect way of killing some time. This game is running fine on most netbooks, there is even a dedicated switch for these computers.
Quake III. You may want to pick a stronger computer with a bigger screen to play this game, but with low settings you can get a proper frame rate out of it without stretching your netbook.
Netbooks with ION chipset run World of Warcraft without any problems. If you make sure your computer has 2GB memory at least, you won’t have problems get it to work. Probably the lack of optical drive will make you go a few rounds but getting it installed is entirely possible. The 9300g Nvidia video card featured in the chipset is absolutely fine for running it in the native 1366×768 resolution.
People deem netbooks to be no good for anything except browsing the net and playing movies, but from a personal experience I can comfortably say that it’s not true. Some less demanding games run just fine on a computer as humble as a netbook.

Lots of good information there. Thanks for sharing that. Can’t wait till the game comes out. There are similar discussions going on, if ya wanna discuss some things about the upcoming Diablo 3 beta check the diablo 3 forums at http://www.d3owned.com
