Printer manufacturers are trying to release more and more economically friendly products, but they have yet to come up with something that doesn’t consume supplies. Either paper runs out or cartridge, maybe the toner needs to be changed, there is always something you have to think about and that needs to be changed or refilled right away. There are seven easy steps you should follow while getting new supplies for your printer in order to avoid getting the wrong cartridge or even one that doesn’t fit your device at all.
0. Change your white shirts.
I admit it may sound stupid but trust me on this one, and change it to something you don’t mind throwing out. Dealing with printer cartridges is messy and your shirts are in risk for permanent damage.
1. Find out if your supply is indeed out.
The paper is easy to spot but unless you’ve got x-ray vision you’ve got to rely on the software to tell you if your cartridge is out. Try taking it out and putting it back to see if there is any change. If the software still says it’s empty and you’ve printed some healthy amount of pages, you’ll have to get some new ones.
2. Check model number of your printer.
Nothing is less complicated than that, usually 36 size letters say it on the front, or you can find a label at the back where it clearly states the exact model number. It is very important for step 3.
3. Find out the part number of the supply you need.
User manual usually mentions the part number of cartridges or toners, but a quick search on the manufacturers website for the model number reveals it. If you have no luck finding it try entering it to Google with the words cartridge, or cartridge replacement added.
4. Look for a place to get your supplies from.
There are great stores in every major city, you can always check local shops for replacement. If you shop locally you save money on shipping and it’s good for the environment too and you won’t have to wait for it either. If you live in a smaller town, check out major online shops and compare their prices, don’t forget to check if they charge for shipping, because it can help you decide between sites.
5. Order your printer supply.
That part is easy, choosing a site where you can pay with PayPal can make things really simple, but using a credit card is just that easy. I would double check the site where I enter my CC info though.
6. Install the new parts in your printer.
Always refer to the manual before attempting to install the new cartridge or toner you just got, it can save you time and frustration.
Getting some new supplies for your printer is not that hard if you actually spend some time at getting the ones you do need. Good luck with finding those toners!
