Pen drives use memory chips to store data like memory cards do, and as such have no moving parts whatsoever. This makes data recovery to be limited to software related data loss usually, but data recovery experts offer their service to burned, soaked and otherwise physically damaged usb flash drives as well. Data recovery is not a cheap service and you’re probably puzzled what to look for, but following these easy steps you will be able to choose the one fitting your needs the most.

1. Use the net. Every data recovery specialist respecting themselves to be worthy of your time are on the net and there are plenty of reviews about them on forums. Keep on reading and you’ll probably won’t fall into any of the stupid mistakes when trying to get data recovery.

2. Don’t stop at the first data recovery service you find. Even if you come back after checking out a few specialists you still gave yourself the freedom of choice. Looking around will save you frustration and preferably some serious amount of money.

3. Don’t try to fix your pen drive at home, you will most probably either do more harm than good, or simply don’t succeed. Data recovery experts will know if you’ve tried to tinker with the device and give a higher quote or deny performing the data recovery.

4. Always ask for an estimate describing your problem and the service you would like to use. Most companies will come back to you with a rough number regarding the fee, and you’ll be able to compare offers from different sources before spending a dollar.

5. Before you agree to start the process, always make sure that you have an exact quote. Before anyone has done anything to your faulty pendrive, ask what the final fee will be. If they don’t give you an exact answer, move along, there are plenty of services out there and you don’t have to choose the one that’s closest to where you live.

6. I don’t know if you’ve heard about lawyers advertising themselves with the slogan ‘No win no fee’, but the same thing exists in data recovery as well. Look for a guarantee that they will not charge you if they fail to recover your data.

Data recovery can be really expensive, depending on the job you’ll pay from $100 to several hundred dollars and that’s probably still less than what you would have lost if the file was gone permanently. As an extra step I’d like suggest you take at least 2-3 copies of every important document you have because buying an extra hard drive is much cheaper than actually having to recover 200 megabytes for $450

    Sir,

I hade inserted my pendrive in a faulty computer and it got damaged means the pendrive is not diectet or open any other system. I hope that there is some complent with that mother board. If fact that pen drive have a lot of very very importent files in ( offical) and there is no back up. So kindly give a solution for recovery for the data from the pendrive .
    Thanking you

  2. If a faulty motherboard damages a pendrive, the first thing you have to do with it is leaving it alone.

I mean it. Don’t try to open the case or fiddle with it otherwise. Take it straight to a specialist, if you’re in luck the part that’s gone out is reparable. You’re in for quite a cost, but if your data is more important, go for it. (that’s why I repeat backup over and over again)
