Pink laptop bags are now available and whether you like to see them around or not they’re going to stay for a little more, or at least as long as there is a demand for them. By the looks of it there is and I’m going to scratch the surface a little to see the reasons.

Todays laptops are becoming more and more sophisticated in both build and size, unlike 10 years ago a notebook is not getting you those funny looks anymore. A laptop is an every day item now and as such it’s more often carried around not only by men, but women too. Old school laptops were around six pounds and not every woman I happen to know would tote that. Now that they’re down to a more civilized 3-4 pounds they’re happy to take their work wherever they go.

Women still tend to look at their laptops like tiny desktop computers that don’t reset when power goes off and are easy to carry when they move to a new apartman. This view started to change slowly but steadily. Everyone I know uses a 15.6″ laptop as their main computer but my girlfriend has gone from hating my 10″ netbook to snatching it whenever I look in the other direction.

This is a definite market just starting to spread its wings and there are laptop accessory manufacturers that see far enough to realize the trend. They make laptop bags for small notebooks and notebooks that cater for ladies in particular. I don’t say that men don’t care about their attire at all, but women are generally more conscious about their looks and when they take their laptops with them, a boring-black-bag will just not cut it.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but women can spend some time picking their handbags and I don’t see a good reason why they would settle with the first laptop bag they see on the shelves of a shop. There are bags in basically any color of the rainbow, but for some reason pink or purple is selling better than other colors when it comes to female customers.

Purple is in no way a female only color, but it’s more widely accepted as such by the society and if that’s what it takes to make women make good use of their ultra-portable notebooks, then be it. I personally can’t wait to see if the recent raise in sales of pink laptop bags make them more conscious about their notebook as well.
