Computer towers are used to keep every computer part in place in your desktop computer and not only that, they’re here to protect everything from shocks and other physical damages. There are several materials used to make a case but the most commonly used is either the wobbly tin, the acrylic, stainless steel or aluminum.
Stainless steel is a great solution for anyone who is looking for quality PC cases, as it bears the most strength for a given thickness. If I had decide between 1mm thick aluminum or the same thickness in stainless steel I’d probably go for the latter. It stands humidity, looks great even unpainted and what’s good for lightweight tanks will probably protect a motherboard too.
Steel may make a tank lightweight, but computer cases made of it are definitely not. I’ve seen tower cases that weighed 35 pounds without power supply and other components. Now knock that over accidentally. Modders like these robust cases very much because of its structural strength. Even if they care the most amazing figure in the side panel it will still hold on and won’t bend.
Steel PC towers are not cheap at all, starting at $100 without power supply they are probably not what you are looking for when searching for a pc tower, but the quality makes up for it. Flattened tin can cases that are sold for $15 will not have the finish and edge quality of a properly manufactured and designed steel case. Cheap cases tend to have sharp unfinished edges inside of the case that not only cut your hands when you’re trying to install parts, wires and cables are also their natural pray. I recall having to change a PATA ribbon cable because a cheap case simply cut the insulation off of one of the wires.
If you’re after a cheap case that does nothing but keeps your computer together under the desk you’re probably not after one of these, but anyone looking for delicate finish and sophisticated design will want to have a stainless steel PC tower
