The most popular touch screen laptop computers for everyday computer users and personal computing purposes are actually just one type of fully functioning mobile computers with touch recognition displays. These common laptop computers you would typically see being sold at your local electronics store are known as convertible touch screen laptops while there is also another type known as the slate PC. The slate PC is by design a true tablet which does not serve the same function as a regular laptop which the convertible is able to.
The slate PC is most commonly used very particular job functions that require a large display area for inputting notes and commands while being light and portable enough so that it can be used while on the go. This means people like waiters and nurses who are taking notes while on their feet and holding the computer in their arms can do so in as comfortable a manner as possible. This largely imitates the use of a traditional legal pad and a pen which for many people is an intuitive and natural way to take notes.
The thing about the slate PC is that it does not have a keyboard or mouse or touch pad and everything is done through the display. Of course there is the option to plug in an additional USB keyboard and mouse if the need should arise but most people never do this because the touch screen and limited functionality is enough.
In comparison to the much more versatile convertible touch screen laptop computers, the slate PC is lighter and offers the functions required for how it is used. A convertible laptop can do the same thing since the screen allows it to fold backwards and transform itself into tablet mode but the added weight of being a traditional laptop makes it a poor choice if it was to be used in tablet mode and carried around in the arms all day.
